Writing Promps

I think it should say if your in your teens, 20's, 30's so on. It should only say your first name because you don't want anyone knowing your personal information.

I wouldn't really like these status bubbles because random people would no more about you

When the administrators of the Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre inProvidence, Rhode Island, adopted six 'therapy' cats from an animal shelter, they had no idea that among them was one that possessed an uncanny sixth sense to predict the impending death of terminally ill patients.

Oscar the tabby cat's story begins in 2005, when the newly born kitten was placed on third floor of the nursing center, home to patients that are in the last stages of illnesses like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and cancer. The kitten spent the first year lazing around and watching the bustling activity around him. Then, just before his first birthday, Oscar began visiting each of the 41-patients on the floor regularly, just like the doctors and nurses did.

Initially, the hospital staff did not pay much attention to the feline's behaviour. However, after some of the people that Oscar was snuggled next to passed away, they began to notice a pattern - the cat only went close to those that were a few hours away from dying. Otherwise, he would curl up on a desk and spend the day sleeping.

To test if it was just a coincidence, the staff tried to place Oscar next to a patient they believed was close to dying. But the paranormal cat refused to stay put and decided to snuggle next to someone else. Turns out he was right because 'his' patient died that same evening, while the one whose death the nurses had thought was imminent, lived on for another two days.

Among the biggest believers in Oscar's paranormal powers is Dr. David Dosa, a geriatrician and Assistant Professor at Brown University. He is so convinced of Oscar's unusual 'gift' that he not only published a paper about him in the New England Journal of Medicine, but also wrote a book. Entitled "Making rounds with Oscar: The extraordinary gift of an ordinary cat’, the 2010 publication outlines the various pieces of evidence he has been able to gather about the cat's predicting powers. Also convinced is the hospital staff who has been using Oscar's foretelling abilities to inform family members so they can bid farewell to their loved ones before it's too late.

Of course, not everyone believes that Oscar has a sixth sense. Some feline experts think that his perfect timing may have to do with a certain smell that the cat has come to associate with death. Others speculate it may have to do with the lack of movement in people that are about to die.

Then there are the skeptics who maintain that Oscar's record is not as perfect as it has been made out to be. They think that the hospital staff and Dr. Dosa have simply 'cherry-picked' the occasions when Oscar has been accurate and ignored the ones when he has not. Fortunately, none of this negative chatter has affected nine-year-old Oscar who continues to provide comfort to sick people in their final hours!

Dangerous Decibels

Today we learnt about dangerous decibels, decibels are little tiny hairs in your ears that can be permanently damaged and can cause hearing loss. We did two tests, banging a tuning fork on the ground and listening to the vibration and tapping the forks on a ping pong ball. I learnt that 85 decibels (DB) is the safe limit that the sound should be and that headphones are more safer than earphones while listening to music and watching videos.

A Pair Of Shoes

"BANG" of went the gun and Trent was quick of the mark, he was round about 10th with a good pace going I knew he was going to try keep up with the top guys but he found it as a struggle. Down the hill my soul was hurting thumping on the ground and then straight into the uphill now this was his advantage!!! as he could run on his toes quick and fast and made a few positions up.

Coming up I could hear the crowd yelling as loud as they can the adrenaline kicked in suddenly Trent was going a lot quicker. Down around the bike shed this is where it started burning but luckily for me i was running on leaves so it was much softer but not as much grip. Now back on the field, where now half way just 1.5 more k's to go and i could hear the crowd roaring and cheering everyone on. I could just hear a little voice "go Trent".

Back down Fraser Street running as fast as Trent could he caught up to the group in front of him and then back up the hill!!!. He had good momentum and stuck to the low line and passed most of them there was someone just ahead of Trent as he tried to run the same pace as him. Coming onto the last few 100's metres he was sprinting and he was passing people onto the last straight there was a big gap behind him and crossed the finish line with relief we got 26th and i was truly proud of Trent.

Student LED Confrence

Thursday 7th was my Student LED Conference. My Mum attended this with me. It was good for he to see what we have been learning in class on the laptops and in my books. She said I am doing really well and I need to trust myself with my maths answers instead of doing everything twice to make sure its correct. So we all agreed that I need to work on my speed. Mum thought it would be good if the conference was just a little bit longer to go over everything.

Rimu Swimming Sports

25m Breaststroke “Yr 8 boys 25m breaststroke to the line” I quickly grabbed my goggles and everyone speed walked to the cones. I was in the 5th lane. There was a few people lined up before me so I had a little bit of time to see who I was facing. To be honest I had a pretty hard group they were all good swimmers and then there was me. My group got called to the line, I didn’t know whether to dive in or to hope in the pool and start. I decided to dive it was a good choice because I got that little bit of more speed. “CLAP” I dived in like a dolphin it felt awesome. I got above the water and took a deep breath my goggles were slipping down I said in my head “ damn I knew I should've tightened them!!!”. I just stayed concentrated on my strokes. I was past halfway I knew I needed to push a little bit more harder. I reached to touch the wall “what did I get what did I get?” yuss I got second thats pretty good for me. The boy handed me the blue stick I was so stoked.
